Installing Sea Legs
Orienting the Hydrofoil Brackets
Sea Legs hydofoils and brackets are to be installed by certified technicians only.

Placement of each hydrofoil is determined by several factors.

 

1. Ensure there is useable area for the upper portion of the vertical stabilizer. Check that trim tab operation does not interfere with water flow.

 

2. Ensure that the outboard wing tip of the horizontal stabilizer is as far outboard as possible, to gain advantage.

 

However, ensure the tip does not extend outboard so far that it can be damaged by docks and pilings.

 

Placement may also be dictated by transom design such as the trim tab cylinder slot designed into this transom shown. Sea Legs are designed to operate effectively in many angles of installation. Still; remain within the wide parameters specified.

 

Ensure the bolt holes will protrude through areas inside the transom that allow nuts to be installed.

 

If required, stiffen the transom to support the load.

 

3. Measure as instructed to ensure both hydrofoils are oriented as per your detailed instructions during certification training.

 

 4. Drill enough bolt holes to secure the brackets tightly against the hull and recheck orientation. Adjust as needed. Shim temporarily.

 

5. Glue in place with recommended thickened epoxy. The epoxy will fill any hull gaps and provide a flat even pad.

Hydraulic System

The Sea Legs Yacht Stabilizer hydraulic system is installed in much the same way as other marine hydraulics.

 

In fact, Sea Legs has been installed to replace conventional fin stabilizers, while utilizing original fin-system hydraulics.

 

However, in all cases. Environmentally friendly hydraulic fluid shall be used.

Optional Systems

In cases where the yacht stabilizers will be used at anchor, at dockside, or while operating at very slow speeds, an auxiliary pump is used.

 

This auxiliary hydraulic pump is normally operated by AC motor. This is to allow use with dockside shore power.

 

Any number of other hydraulic power plant configurations are available.
